Harsh Realities Of Gender Discrimination In Sports Media

By Tammie Caldwell

There are different kinds of discrimination. Anybody can be victimized by gender, racial, and social discrimination. History has so many accounts if brutality just because some people do not like the color, language, or principles of other persons. An example of this brutality is the Genocide of Jews by Nazis. It is a very traumatic event especially for women and children that time.

Some forms of discrimination today have become even more subtle and sarcastically creative. Those who bully others discreetly find ways to humiliate the person they hate. This is exemplified in television shows and is presented in a funny way. Gender discrimination in sports media is one form of bullying that is affecting so many individuals with different sexual orientation.

There are also racial discrimination cases until today in sports. One example is when an official of the National Basketball Association or NBA mocked one player who happens to be Black. He uttered racial remarks against the player. But the good thing is that justice has been instantly served when the official was totally removed from the circle. His remarks were very discriminatory and many people in social media have been enraged.

For trans genders, gays, bis, and lesbians, it is a very cruel world they live in. Often, they are denounced by their families. So they turn to their friends who are also suffering the same thing. Hence, the LGBT community was formed to answer all the issues about these individuals and help them cope with the harsh realities if the world.

The media plays a crucial role in abolishing discrimination. Similarly, they can also be the ones who can trigger this. There are movies and shows that suggest bullying especially the lesbians and gays. They are exemplified as sinners and bad models in some movies and shows. They are still understood until this point in time. But it is a good thing they are now fighting and are coming out in the limelight.

They should stick to who they are and be brave enough to face the consequences. Today, there are already celebrities, artists, and athletes exposing their real identity. But the consequences are still painful.

When the public will know about the truth, they will mock the person and bully him or her in social media. This is simplest way to actually channel individual perspectives towards a celebrity. The worse thing is that the media seems to sensationalize this. They tolerate people spoofing or making fun of the involved person.

With the influence of television and the internet, kids are becoming bullies themselves. The usual plaintiffs are the Blacks. But sometimes, they just keep it to themselves until they develop emotional and psychological trauma.

Bullying can be both physical and verbal. The role of parents in this issue is very critical. They must check on their children from time to time and encourage them to tell them how their day went in school.
