The Need To Sustain Efforts In The Fight Against Racism In Professional Sports

By Enid Hinton

In most instances, when you critically study the scenario of most unwanted events, you will certainly discover that the turning point arises from an un-significant display of affection. In other cases, it is obvious that a great deal of affection must occur in order to achieve positive results so far as racism in professional sports is concerned. For example, in sports where racism takes centre-stage. It is believed that racial discrimination focuses or chooses to deal less on individual's abilities. It wishes to solve its problem squarely by viewing it from a wider perspective.

Racism has dominated the headlines in sporting activities around the globe. From international soccer where it is always recurring to its cradle the NFL, NBA and MLB where cases of racial discrimination have become a social norm, it is speedily grabbing airwaves. The ideas and opinions of prominent figures on this issue are capable of creating comments and counter-comments that can cause a societal impact that is highly unpredictable.

And it has a deep meaning for lots of people who currently go to the public to make comments on what they feel are their own conception of what racism is or cannot be. Every league requires leaders to be in unison against all forms of bigotry and hatred. And every little action by any person can lead to an impact that resonates throughout a nation. That single denouncement of a bigot by that single personality has the impact of causing a ripple through the consciousness of a nation.

A simple act of boycotting the products or services of companies owned by a racist can pass on a message that even the youngest of people can identify with. Players of any game in any league must be united in this fight because any statement that is laden with hatred and racism against the personality of an individual player is directed at the numerous supporters of that team, that game, that sport, and the entire sporting world.

At the beginning of this impact made by racism, it is practically impossible to decipher its effects and can be correctly compared to the tidal waves of the ocean. It gathers momentum at a rapid rate immediately it commences due to the pronouncement by the individual and the majestic awareness created by the media who are very good at publicity aimed at controlling the minds of the masses.

When the masses have been adequately informed by the media, they take crucial steps to punish the racist by destroying his image, abandoning his products and services and sacking him from his office. The next impact is highly volatile.

Victims of this process suffer immensely from it as they lose their dignity, respect, power, influence and riches which therefore transform them into low-lives and unwanted members of the society as the world turns its face away from them. They become rejected by friends, family, associates, relatives and former colleagues.

We are all required to be vocal when we fall victim to racism in our different sport of choice. However, the in-significant affection may just play the crucial role of solving this problem. Just maybe.
