Marketing On Twitter - Is It A Great Way To Build Your List?

By Max Blom

A couple of ago, it was hard to dismiss the buzz online about Twitter marketing tools. It was considered that Twitter was one of the better ways to grow a list and to get people to purchase the products you are advertising. But the question is, were any of those software packages that were released, actually doing you any good? Just how good is Twitter marketing? This article will examine the case for becoming involved and to find if it will really repay your time and effort.

I was one of those who was interested to determine if getting a huge following on Twitter was going to help my product promotion efforts and so paid for the tools. I ended up purchasing and joining programs that would get me followers and programs that would actually advertise my products for me. All in all, I think I purchased about 8 software programs to help with my Twitter marketing efforts.

The first program I invested in allowed me to automatically follow people in the hopes that they would then return the favor and follow me. People who were not following me on Twitter would be automatically removed from my follow list by another tool I had purchased. Removing non-followers meant I could concentrate on individuals who might be persuaded to follow me. A few of the tools I paid for are not interesting enough to bring up but I will just mention a helpful program that auto-Tweeted any blog posts I made every time they were published.

In the beginning, I was genuinely delighted with the end results after using the programs in combination as they really delivered on what they promised. I was quickly brought down to earth when I went over my spreadsheet and saw that I wasn't actually generating any money! My plan was to post several blog entries every day and each of them was then sent straight to appear on Twitter. Wanting to increase the number of daily posts, I found a way to automatically post any number of entries to my blog and hopefully obtain more followers on Twitter.

Well, the following are my results: After three years utilizing these tools, I had gained almost 10,000 Twitter followers. You may be really delighted to gain that number of followers, but there's more to come. During those three years I had affiliate links to my products on more than 15,000 posts in my Twitter account.

And that was the only advertising that I did for that blog, I decided not to even ping the posts to see exactly what Twitter could do for me. Just how 'good' it was rapidly became plain: after 3 years only two affiliate sales pulled in $46.74 plus a further $9.10 for Adsense. With just 2 - 4 visits daily coming from Twitter, perhaps this is not surprising.

Despite me making use of tools to make the job easier and getting approximately 10,000 followers on Twitter, I still could not turn a realistic profit using Twitter marketing for my blog. In fact, in the last 3 years I have not even made good money from that blog to pay for the Twitter programs that I had invested in. So from my perspective, while there may be good ways to promote on Twitter, paying for the automatic softwares are not the way to go.
